Transition Project

Transitioning the pet industry to be sustainable and resilient.

The VetBros Pet Education Charitable Fund is teaming up with Central Bark doggie daycare and Carol
Stream Animal Hospital to implement renewable/green energy consumption into their facilities in hopes of influencing the pet industry to be more environmentally responsible. Climate change is one of the greatest public health threats of the twenty-first century.

The pet industry has had a strong desire to promote environmental sustainability within our industry, but lacks the resources available to make an impact. The VetBros PECF is teaming up with Green 2 Gold to support the pet industry in learning about and taking action to decrease its environmental footprint.

The Transition Project is the environmental initiative that is helping the pet industry upgrade their facilities (veterinary hospitals, doggie daycare, pet stores, animal shelters, etc.) in order to reduce their general waste and energy consumption. The pet industry has always highlighted their own concerns about the impact that climate change has on the pets we care for and care about. It is time for our industry to lead by example, and the Transition Project provides the tools and guidance needed to make our industry be a leader in environmental sustainability and resilience.

The VetBros Story & Mission
Dr. Contreras had twin boys early in his vet school education. He often had to study with his children which led to their love for animals and desire to help educate others about pets. The VetBros Pet Education Charitable Fund stems from this love of animals and education.

The VetBros Pet Education Charitable Fund’s mission is to educate children and young adults about how to best care for pets and to help them fulfill their dreams of becoming veterinarians, animal advocates, and animal healthcare professionals. This organization will help provide scholarship money as well as educational seminars to help individuals realize their dreams.

The VetBros Pet Education Charitable Fund will also provide financial assistance toward healthcare for pets in families experiencing various hardships (bankruptcy, unemployment, etc.) or natural disasters (flooding,
tornado, fire, etc.)
A Day at the Veterinary Hospital
There are numerous opportunities available to veterinarians, but most children have no idea just how many exist. Many children dream of working with animals, but those dreams are often cut short because of their limited understanding of the different career paths available to them with a veterinary degree.

Meet Dr. Contreras, Founder of the VetBros Pet Education Charitable Fund

Dr. Contreras loves to teach students how to get involved in the field of animal health at an early age. Instructing children on the importance of volunteering and shadowing different health  professions allows children to understand what being in the animal health profession is all  about.

Dr. Contreras also loves helping young adults understand that being a well-rounded  student is critical for being a successful veterinarian because veterinarians play such a  huge variety of roles, sometimes even within the same day. Involvement in various organizations helps children become the right kind of leader necessary to being a veterinarian.

Academics, specifically being strong in math and science, is critical for being accepted into a  veterinary program. Dr. Contreras discusses his own previous challenges in the classroom and highlights the importance of getting proper help, using resources, understanding our strengths/areas to improve, and understanding our own styles of learning. We all learn differently and there is no excuse to not get the help needed to learn the material necessary to achieve your ultimate goal.  In addition, Dr. Contreras discusses various cases and how he diagnoses and treats a variety of conditions, using videos and pictures to make the experience both engaging and interactive.
